Arts Monongahela grew out of the collective effort of artists, arts administrators, business persons, public officials and interested individuals in the community working together to create a better Morgantown area in the state of West Virginia.

Initially a project of the Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce's Vision 2000 program (now called Vision 2020), Arts Monongahela was officially incorporated as an independent agency in October of 1999.
