| Arthurdale Heritage Muesum Founded in 1934, Arthurdale was created to give displaced coal miners a chance for a new life. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was the empathetic force behind the project. She visited Arthurdale many times; dining with homesteaders, dancing the Virginia Reel, and speaking at graduations. The museum showcases the history of the town, and points you in the direction of other historical sites throughout the town. The museum is open year round on weekdays from 10:00 - 2:00 and Saturdays 12:00 - 5:00 and Sundays 2:00 - 5:00 May - October. Admission is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for museum members and students.
