Images of the Mon - Mon River Summit Art Contest
Sponsored by Monongalia River Recreation & Commerce Committee, Upper Monongalia River Association, Greater Morgantown Chamber of Commerce and Monongalia Arts Center
The purpose of the Images of the Mon art contest is to draw attention to the Monongahela River. Images may deal with any of its aspects, including its scenic properties, environment, navigation, or riverside communities. Entries will be judged on their presentation of this theme as well as on artistic merit.
Exhibition Date – April 1 - 5, 2008, Davis Gallery, Monongalia Arts Center. Award winning pieces will also be on display at the Waterfront Place Hotel on April 7, 2008 during the Mon River Summit. All other entries will be on display electronically.
Eligibility - All Entries must be original, completed within the past two years, created by an artist 18 years or older. All paintings, drawings and photographs must be suitably framed, labeled and wired for hanging. Sculptures, ceramics and textiles must be prepared for display. Video installations will not be accepted. All submitted work will be shown; no rejections unless work is improperly prepared for exhibiting. Two entries per person permitted. Work must be labeled with artist’s name, telephone number, title, medium, and price, if for sale. Participation in exhibition grants MRRCC permission to photograph submitted artwork for promotional purposes.
Submission of Entries – Monongalia Arts Center, 107 High Street, Morgantown, WV, Friday, March 14, 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. or Saturday, March 15, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Return of Entries – Pick up from MAC Monday, April 7, 11:00 a.m. -
7:00 p.m. Exception: Awarded pieces to be returned Tuesday, April 8.
Awards – Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded for First, Second, Third Place and People’s Choice.
Judge – Lorna Vincent-Venter, West Virginia artist and art instructor.
Commission – A 25% commission will be taken by MAC on all work sold.
Liability – All work will be given reasonable care; however, insurance will not be provided by MAC or any of the other sponsoring organizations.
